Dog/cat handler, animal behavior and psychology, socialization of dogs in outdoor pack setting, yard management, dog behavior analysis, dog development and behavior modification, animal care technician, cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning. Must be able to track and manage a yard full of dogs, owner/customer interactions, use kennel software, manage random stimulants and teach dogs to self develop. Must be willing to "unlearn" what you think you know about dogs/pets, and study each dog's behavior as you get to know them over time. Best homework is Cesar Malon and Dog ImPossible shows. We don't babysit dogs, we develop them using Pack Therapy, a deep understanding of dog/pack behavior, and how it differs from human and all other behaviors is critical. Self awareness and self control are critical elements of this position. Remaining calm and controlled, using the soft influence of our own calm, and anticipating the effects of each stimulant, that's how we manage and develop each dog within a pack therapy setting.
We work weekends and holidays, dawn to dusk, every day. It's the nature of the boarding and daycare business, we work caring for pets while their owners are away.
This position will start as an Intern/probation period, unless the candidate has significant animal handling experience. Currently we are hiring for afternoon/evening shifts, typically 2pm to 7pm, although schedules vary upon how many dogs are booked etc. The position is hoped to go full time as the business continues to grow. Indeed job categories are limited, and none apply to this job, I apologize if it resulted in wasting your time.
We are obviously not like any other pet facility, and our standard of care means we are determined to send home a better healthier pet than when it arrived. We focus all our policies, procedures, and practices on the state of mind of the animal, which can only be deduced by reading body language. A keen eye is critical, and a willingness to "live in failure" will keep you from burning out. We are constantly evolving, business wise and individual dog wise. This job carries a fairly high degree of risk. Anyone who works with dogs gets bitten, but how you handle it, grow from it's challenges, that determines your ability to help dogs better next time, and consequently how valuable you become to the company. Because dogs exist in the world we demand they live in, all "events," good bad or otherwise, are our responsibility. This job is challenging, demanding, risky, and possibly the most rewarding job you will ever have.
The ideal candidate will most likely love dogs and/or animals in general, may have studied animal behavior or worked in an animal treatment position, vet or vet tech experience would be highly beneficial. Pet sitting or doggie daycare is not a qualification for this job, depending on the person's takeaway form that work. You should be ambitious and curious, focused on the dog's growth, not your career or politics. We work and fail as a team, all in support of our dog's development. We don't play the blame game but we analyze each success and failure in detail, and work hard to discover new and innovative ways to help canines live in a homo sapiens world. We are a growing business with a variety of opportunities, no slackers, no cell phone addicts, and no drama (it stresses out the dogs). Please notice I did not list any "bleeding heart" descriptions. We are not a rescue, we are the hard working, deep thinkers of dog care and rehabilitation.
