Camp Krem Yosemite is a 501(c)3 non-profit summer sleep-away camp in Ahwahnee, CA. We serve children, teens, and adults with a wide range of developmental disabilities.
We are looking to hire a seasonal (summer), Aquatics Director for our camp which starts May 1- August 16. Room & board provided!
The Aquatics Director's position is to further the mission of Camp Krem through the planning and implementation of swimming activities at the pool at Camp Krem and at aquatic facilities encountered on outings outside of Camp Krem. Deliver swim activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper’s abilities. Implement and ensure the safe operations of the pool and pool equipment.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Deliver a fun swim program to campers
-Plan and implement aquatic programming incorporating the varying aquatic abilities of the campers.
2. Supervise and guard all waterfront activities
-Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent and to manage injuries.
-Provide rescues as needed.
-Utilize first aid and CPR and other emergency management services as needed.
-Understand and implement appropriate response to changes in water conditions or weather conditions
affecting the pool.
3. Train camp staff and campers in safety procedures.
-Assist in the implementation of staff training at the pool.
-Train aquatic and counseling staff in their waterfront responsibilities.
-Supervise lifeguards to provide a safe and high-quality program.
-Ensure campers follow safety procedures.
-Evaluate aquatics abilities of campers and staff via swim tests.
-Inform staff of swimming precautions pertaining to their campers (i.e. 1:1/seizure status, life jacket
requirements, deep end swimming abilities, etc.)
4. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the waterfront program area
-Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
-Clean waterfront area daily keeping it free of hazards and debris.
-Conduct regular maintenance of the pool including chemical testing, backwashing, vacuuming, etc.
-Keep accurate and up-to-date log of chemical treatments.
Other Job Duties:
-Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
-Participate as a member of the programming staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special
events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
-Assist in the planning of any special events, especially in the area of aquatics.
-Assist with various other camp duties as assigned by directors.
-Communicate and interact effectively with fellow staff members, administrative staff and campers,
regardless of ability, race, creed, national origin, sexual identification or gender.
-Abide by all camp policies and procedures
-Complete and submit all paperwork as required within designated time frames.
Qualifications:
-Current certification in lifeguarding.
-Current certification in lifeguard training preferred.
-Current certification in swim instruction or related experience preferred.
-Current certification in first aid and CPR.
-Prior experience at an aquatic environment similar to camp.
-Desire and ability to work with children and adults with disabilities.
-Knowledge of aquatics programming.
-21 years of age or older.
Physical Aspects of the Job:
• Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and
emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
• Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and
emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
• Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an
emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain
constant supervision of campers.
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Able to preform any and all lifeguarding saves and techniques in the event of an emergency
