PERRY HALL, MD (LOCAL CANDIDATES STRONGLY PREFERRED)-Wonderful family 40-45 minutes from Baltimore, seeks a FULL-TIME SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATOR/NANNY for their 4-year-old son with Autism from 7:45am-5pm Monday-Friday. They also have a 2-year-old son who is in daycare for most of the day. Care for the youngest is limited to about an hour after daycare as well as transportation to and from daycare.
The ideal candidate has experience and/or a background/training in working with children with special needs, specifically Autism. ABA training/experience and/or teaching experience is a huge plus! The family is working with an ABA consultant who can provide training as well. They seek a long-term caregiver/educator who can be a consistent presence in their son’s life. Someone dependable who can make an 18-24-month commitment to support their son as he learns and grows. The goal is to prepare him for elementary school and see him off to kindergarten!
The day will start at 7:45am picking both boys up and taking them to “school” by 8am each morning. They attend the same daycare, which is 1 mile from their home, and will be already dressed, packed and ready to go upon the caregiver’s arrival. The youngest is in daycare from 8am-4:00pm and the eldest is in daycare from 8-noon. The educator/caregiver will be with the eldest while he is in school, providing supplemental classroom support and assisting with his activities throughout the morning. The caregiver will then drive him to speech therapy around noon. Therapy is about a 40-minute drive from the school. He usually naps in the car while driving there.
He attends speech therapy from 1:15-3:15pm Monday-Thursday. His caregiver does not need to attend therapy sessions. The time while he is in speech therapy can be used as downtime and/or spent running errands for the family when needed. During the first several weeks, an ABA consultant will provide ABA training during this time over the phone.
After speech therapy, the caregiver will be responsible for picking the youngest up from daycare around 4pm and taking both children home for playtime. They would love for this time at home to be spent facilitating play and activities that teach and encourage social skills in how to play and interact with others. Both boys are bubbly, love to give cuddles, and do well with other caregivers. They love to be active outdoors and take walks. Both do well with a strict schedule. Their caregiver will be responsible for caring for both children at home in the rare event that their school is closed.
The family will either provide a car for transporting the children or will provide mileage and toll reimbursement at the federal rate if driving your own vehicle while on the job. It is preferred that candidates have their own, safe, and reliable vehicle. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Mom primarily works from home. They have a small Jack Russell Terrier who does not require care (no dog allergies, please!).
They seek a caregiver who is patient, understanding and genuinely loves working with children; an educator who can support their son in school and prepare him for success and independence in kindergarten. They travel internationally as a family about twice per year and would love for their caregiver to join them, but it is not mandatory! Must be fully vaccinated for COVID, tdap and the flu.
Pay is commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid sick days, holidays, vacation and a healthcare stipend. Relocation assistance is available for candidates relocating from out of state, so long as a long-term commitment (18-24 months) can be made. Start date is flexible for the right fit.
