The program is called The Child's Element, and we have Mindful Forest School where we are solely outdoors, year round in the Olympus Cove area of Salt Lake City.


Teachers are required to be prepared everyday with their own outdoor clothing. Most important is proper clothing gear for our rainy days. On actively rainy days, we meet at a park near the trailhead where we meet regularly (informed by 7:30am of a Park Day by the Director.


Positive attitudes and excitement about all weather is very important to set a good example to the children on the coldest days. Children are all prepared with their own outdoor clothing and gear.
In all seasons, children and teachers are required to wear close toed shoes, no sandals of any kind, and long pants are required for teachers and children both.


Pay starts at $15/hr, up to $18/hr starting pay depending on previous related experience.


We are also looking for long-term employees, to continue on into the 23-24 school year.


Children are ages 2.5-6 (up to 8 in the summer), teacher:child ratio is 1 : 5 ½ on a regular basis.
Two teachers per 11 children.


During the school year, all Holiday breaks have the potential for being PAID (restrictions apply, outlined in the Teacher Guidebook provided upon hire.


For long-term employees, the only weeks that are unpaid are the 2 week break immediately following the school year, and the 2 week break following Summer Term, before the school year starts.


All Teachers are on a 1099 status, however, all supplies are provided by Mindful Forest School. You are only required to bring your own food, water, and proper clothing for warmth and comfort. As a teacher at Forest School, you understand that supplies will need to be stored in your vehicle, or in your home on a day-to-day basis, and brought with you on the days you are scheduled to work. Required teacher Orientation with the Director, usually lasts between 2-4 hours, scheduled as needed for new teachers.


Mandatory Summer Prep Meeting is April 18th, 2023 at 6:30pm. Location TBD.
A second Summer Prep Meeting will be held toward the end of May for teachers who cannot attend the April 18th meeting. Date/Location TBD for the second summer prep meeting.


This position is part time (maximum of 20 hours a week)
Shifts are Monday-Friday 8:30-12:30 (children are picked up at 12:15 daily)


CPR/First aid for Infants, Children, and Adults, and Food Handler Permits are required for all teachers prior to your first day.


Background checks required.


For log-term teachers continuing on into the school year: As a teacher at Mindful Forest School, you agree to continued training and mentoring. Team meetings, and occasional individual meetings. As your director, I am always here to continually guide in building healthy attachments with the children, encouraging strong bonds between teacher and child, as well as supporting children in healthy independence and teaching kindness and respect for all.


As a teacher, you agree to do everything in your power to keep children safe, eliminate time spent on your phone during your shifts (only to message parents, or Director Sara), to be reliable with your shifts, get coverage for days needed/wanted off, and to create strong bonds with the children on a daily basis.
As a teacher, you agree to keeping teacher conversation to a minimum, to allow for the best supervision of children. As a teacher, you agree to be enthusiastic with parents and children, remain professional with parents and co-workers, be prepared with gear you need to stay comfortable in the outdoors, and to be on time to your shifts. As a teacher, you agree to do your best to give ample notice of days needing coverage, and to do your best to give 12-24 hours notice of needing sick days.


Teachers are required to be connected to the Brightwheel app for communication with parents, and other staff members for improved parent/teacher communication, and Forest School community connections. You will receive an invite to get connected to Brightwheel upon hire.
