Amazing single mom, who is an ER physician, seeks a FULL-TIME CAREGIVER for her 3.5-year-old son with autism and sensory processing disorder. He is a sweet, smart little boy who loves to be with people. He loves numbers/letters, reading books, playing outside, The Avengers, Blue Clues, cars Legos. While he is verbal, he does have an expressive speech delay and can get frustrated when he has trouble communicating. Strong preference for candidates who have experience or training working with children with autism!

The position can be live-in or live-out. Live-in accommodations consist of a private bedroom with a large closet and private bathroom. The family lives in a home in the suburbs of Detroit, about a 20-30 minute drive to the city depending on traffic. They have a large backyard with a securely-locked pool and a 20lb Poodle who does not require care other than being let in and out on occasion and being fed when mom works late.

The nanny will be responsible for taking the child to and from school and after-school activities/therapies while his mom is working. Preference for candidates who have their own vehicle for use while on the job (mileage reimbursement provided), but it is not a dealbreaker. The child is currently in school from 12:45-3pm Monday-Thursday from now until June. Starting in September, he will be in school from 8:45am-12:45pm Monday-Thursday. The goal is for him to eventually be in school from 8:45-3pm Monday-Thursday. He will also have OT, music therapy, swim lessons and sensory gymnastics on different days during the school year. He does not attend school in the summer; however, he will have weekly OT/Speech (Monday), music therapy (Tuesday), swim lessons (Wednesday), OT/Speech (Thursday), off Fridays, sensory gym (Saturday) + potential in-home ABA therapy from June 15 through 1st week of September.

Duties in addition to complete childcare consist of diapering (they are working on potty training!); meal prep for the child and tidying up after meals; the child’s laundry when time permits; picking up toys; taking out trash if it’s full, etc. The primary duty is to provide complete childcare and follow his schedule (he thrives on routine!). The ideal candidate has experience working with children with autism and/or special needs. Someone who is INVOLVED and ENGAGED and can sit on the floor and teach him how to do puzzles, work on reading, play outside, and be active with him. Mom seeks a nanny who is reliable, patient, and organized. She works a demanding job and needs someone she can rely on to show up on time and be ready to take over the household when she’s gone. Must be patient and flexible as her little guy has special needs may need some extra help. Someone who is fun and likes to play outside, be interactive, and do projects will be a good fit. Her son does best with a schedule and guided interactions but also needs to be a kid! They vacation 1-2 times per year as a family and would love for their nanny to join but it is not a requirement! Must have all standard childhood vaccinations plus influenza.

Due to the nature of her profession, mom’s schedule varies daily, however, it is known about 2-2.5 months in advance and she has the flexibility to request days off if needed. She typically works 2-night shifts (6pm-4/5am) and 2 weekends a month. Hours will average to be 40-45 hours per week. Must be willing to work about 40 hours a week, 2 weekends a month, and be willing to stay overnight (and into the next morning) approximately 4 days a month. She is usually gone 10-12 hours for shifts and is on-call 2 days a month. In most cases, the nanny will have two consecutive days off MOST weeks but it is not always guaranteed, as well as two weekends off per month. Dependability and flexibility are of the utmost importance due to mom’s career.

Pay is $25-30/hour but is flexible depending on experience and fitness for the role. Benefits include paid sick days and vacation. Major holidays are paid at time and a half if required to work (typically mom has to work one summer and one winter holiday). Start date is flexible for the right fit.
