For over 40 years, Transition House has worked throughout Cambridge to create a culture where breaking the cycle of violence is an ongoing priority and where people affected by domestic violence can live in safety, access housing, resources and the holistic support they need to thrive.

Program Summary:
The Housing Fellow will be a part of the housing team and will assist with organizing, planning, development, and research to address systemic barriers that contribute to housing instability. This position offers the opportunity to deepen experience and understanding of Transition House’s housing continuum, as well as relevant resources that support survivors of domestic violence. This is a one year fellowship for someone interested in the domestic violence field, and doing research that supports survivors’ independence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● On site work in the main office as well as in the Emergency Shelter with a commitment to minimum of 20 hours per week.
● Support Housing Search Coordinators identify and develop programs related to affordable and permanent housing.
● Assist with research, and technology support for clients.
● Assist Resident Support Coordinators with interviews for clients applying to internal residential programs.
● Support housing team members around organizing, and maintaining accurate data and records for clients.
● Research best practices and trauma informed care around providing housing stability to survivors of domestic violence.
● Support Housing Search Coordinators with apartment search, creating housing newsletters, and housing interview prep for clients.
● Support housing team members by creating and implementing programs that address social, emotional, and the diverse needs of clients.
● Support housing team members with programming that build community for the agency as well as for clients.
● Support housing team members with apartment inspection, maintenance work order, and keys update.
● Support housing team members with move-in and move-out of clients, and furnishing new apartments.
Program/Administration:
● Attend regular supervision as well as clinical supervision.
● Participate in team meetings, and staff meetings.
● Attend professional development opportunities.
● Maintain current and accurate records of services through the EmpowerDB database.
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing Services and other program staff.
Qualifications:
● Personal commitment to the mission and work of Transition House.
● Creative, problem solving, innovative and a visionary.
● Self-motivated, team player, and disciplined to regularly set and achieve work goals.
● Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.
● Strong research, organization and presentation skills.
● High level of proficiency with the Internet, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
● Ability and desire to work with an enthusiastic and highly driven team.
● Committed to collaboration and excellent service provision.
● Work experience or demonstrated interest in the domestic violence field and/or programs related to affordable housing or human services is preferred.
● Able to climb stairs frequently, bend and lift items up to 30 pounds.
● CORI check required, though findings will not necessarily preclude hire.
Work Environment:
● Some exposure to emotional support animals.
● Regularly exposed to cleaning products, chemicals and solvent. Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions.
● Routinely requires the ability to move supplies or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, while at times ascending or descending stairs.
