The Adult Basic Education/GED teacher is responsible for multi-level class instruction of adult learners. The candidate is also responsible for the overall learning environment of the classroom, including operations, management, and learning outcomes; submission of a course syllabi; development of learning plans; tracking attendance; and completion of all applicable course/program reports and professional development plans. This position instructs cohorts of at least 20 adult learners in reading, writing, science and mathematical content knowledge to improve basic skills and/or prepare for a GED credential. Instruction will be in-person and online, morning, afternoon, and evenings four days per week. Instructors will work closely with Admissions and Case Management staff on student attendance, follow-up, and assessment. Instructor will work with Employment Services staff to facilitate employment and/or career planning of students.
The candidate should have the following:
* Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process, including providing blended, online, and distance learning opportunities for students
* Experience using evidenced based practices in adult education and ABE or ESOL curriculum development
* Provide student-centered instruction to non-traditional students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds and ability to adapt teaching style and materials to meet the individual needs of students
* Ability to fully engage learners using innovative strategies and techniques to form increased persistence and retention
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
* Appropriate Adult Basic Education licensure or TESOL certification
* Prior online teaching experience, preferably using Zoom, Teams, Google, Classroom, or other Learning
* Management System
* Ability to speak a language in addition to English preferred
* Work as part of a team and team-teach if necessary
