The Talking Information Center, a Marshfield based non-profit serving the blind, visually impaired, and print impaired, is seeking an Office Assistant. Approaching it's 45th year, the Talking Information Center turns print into sound via the human voice and delivers accessible information to those who need it throughout Massachusetts to promote independence and connect listeners to their local and global community. This position will be an integral part of our team, helping to grow our mission as we continue into our next 45 years!
The Office Assistant will be responsible running the front desk from 7-11am Monday-Friday and assisting volunteers and staff as needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Manage volunteer schedules including assigning programs as well as coordinating day/time for the volunteers to record in studio or remotely.
· Work with Producer and Program Director to ensure that all programs are recorded by the required time each day.
· Assist prospective new volunteers with their audition process including giving them a tour of TIC, explaining our mission, and showing them how to use the recording equipment.
· Troubleshoot computer/software issues for current volunteers.
· Occasionally assist the Producer with running the board.
· Assist with various office tasks.
Qualifications:
This is an entry level position that pays $18/hr. Basic computer/software knowledge is necessary. Prior radio engineering experience is a plus but not necessary. The ideal candidate will have the following traits/skills:
· Ability to multitask
· Understand TIC’s mission and become familiar with multiple aspects of TIC’s day to day operations
· Ability to communicate comfortably through multiple modes (phone, in person, email, text)
· Be clear, warm, and enthusiastic in approach to communication; able to retain that manner in person, on phone, through email, etc.
· Have a working knowledge of computer software programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, for creating and maintaining databases
· Be able to keep clear, concise records, and be able to digitize and maintain these records
· Be able to schedule and maintain a volunteer schedule that is dynamic and changing
· Be able to engage with volunteers, guiding their experience from initial orientation to the completion of assignments
· Understand the various reading assignments, including a familiarity with content, required recording durations, and code names to save recordings
· Be able to answer questions and provide necessary details to volunteers to complete assignments, which may include minor technical support to volunteers both in studio and remote
